The difference between 5G, 5G Plus, and UW is the speed. The difference between UW and UC is what type of signal transmission it uses. It could be either CDMA or TDD-LTE.
The “5g vs 5g uw speed” is the difference between 5G, 5G Plus, and 5G UC. The first two are a wireless technology that can provide speeds up to 10 Gbps while the latter is an upgrade of the former.
The successor to the 4G network, 5G is the fifth generation of mobile networks. It offers a faster data transfer rate than 4G. However, the internet speed you get is determined on the 5G frequency you are accessing. Yes, you read it accurately. 5G is divided into multiple bands, each of which offers varying speeds. These bands have been assigned acronyms by the network providers, and you can see them next to the 5G logo on your phone.
Let’s go into the article to learn more about the various 5G bands. We’ll look at the differences between 5G, 5G Plus, 5G UW, and 5G UC in this article.

Low, Mid, and High are the three classifications of the 5G band. Let’s take a closer look at each of them.
Specifications | 5G low band | 5G in the middle band | 5G (high-band) |
---|---|---|---|
Speed | 30 Mbps to 250 Mbps | 100 Mbps to 900 Mbps | 1–3 Gigabits per second |
Covered distance | Hundreds of square miles | Few miles | a kilometer or even less |
Spectrum | 1 GHz or less | GHz range: 1 to 6 | between 24 and 40 GHz |
5G has three bands: low, mid, and high.
5G low-band
The speed of the 5G low-band is not that faster as compared to the 4G LTE. Thus, it can be said that there isn’t much of a difference between the speed the 4G LTE provides and the speed that 5G low-band offers. Generally, the 5G low band network provides 30 to 250 Mbps speed covering a Hundreds of square miles.
However, the 5G low-band has a widespread signal reach. It covers large areas and works fine indoors too.
5G in the mid-band
The data speed that mind-band 5G offers is faster than the 5G low-band offers. It provides 100 to 900 Mbps of data speed. However, it does not have the widespread signal reach that the 5G low-band provides, and hence, it covers only a few miles.
5G high-bandwidth
The 5G high-bandwidth provides you with the highest data speed, from 1 to 3 Gbps. However, everything, even the best thing, has a limitation or rather a say some drawback. This drawback only gives us the chance to improve more. And the restriction with 5G high-bandwidth is that the signal it provides is minimal. It cannot cover large distances or obstacles such as buildings, glass, etc.
Now that we’ve learned about the various bands of the 5G network, we can go on to the next step. It’s time to figure out what 5G, 5G Plus, 5G UW, and 5G UC are all about and how they vary.
Specifications | 5G | 5G Plus | 5G UW | 5G UC |
---|---|---|---|---|
5G Band | Spectrum with a low band. | Spectrum in the mid (3.45 GHz) and high bands. | Spectrum in the mid and high bands. | Spectrum in the mid band (2.5 GHz) and high band (3.5 GHz). |

5G vs. 5G Plus vs. 5G University of Washington vs. 5G UC
5G
If your network only shows the 5G logo, you are probably on the carrier’s 5G low-band network. AT&T uses this 5G logo to refer to their low-band network, which means your network speed will not be too fast compared to the 4G LTE.
5G Plus
The 5G Plus logo on your screen means you are connected to AT&T’s high-band or mid-band network. It provides you with faster speed and a responsive connection.
AT&T is planning to expand its C-band later this year and roll out the 3.45 GHz range using only one single tower climb.
5G UW
The UW in 5G UW stands for Ultra-Wideband. The 5G UW has both the high-band and 5G in the mid-band provided by Verizon.
Earlier, Verizon only provided the high-band signals. However, it was hard to get the network signal in some specific areas. Later, in 2022, Verizon started supporting the 5G in the mid-band too and put it under the same Ultra Wideband category.
In most cases, whenever you see the UW icon on your phone, you are on the 5G in the mid-band network. However, the speed difference will be noticeable if you are on a 5G high-bandwidth network.
5G UC
The UC in 5G UC stands for Ultra Capacity. The 5G UC consists of both mid-band and 5G high-bandwidth networks provided by the T-Mobile.
The majority of the network compromises a 2.5GHz mid-band spectrum. As compared to Verizon or AT&Ts, the T-mobile has a good head start in terms of having an up and running 5G network.
