In this review, we’ll look at the ASUS M32AD prebuilt desktop computer, which appears very similar to the popular ASUS M32CD on the exterior. We wanted to see how it compared to the very popular M32CD option (and which we think is a great buy).
In this review, we’ll dissect the ASUS M32AD tower’s hardware, as well as see how it performs and if it’s worth upgrading components. We’ll draw a few parallels with the ASUS M32CD tower (you can see our full review of the M32CD here).
ASUS M32AD Desktop PC Overview
As is customary for ASUS, the M32AD tower PC is intended to be a simple plug-and-play option for individuals looking to purchase a prebuilt system and get up and running as quickly as possible.
The M32AD-US001T, which comes with an i3 CPU, integrated graphics, 8GB RAM, 1 TB of data storage, and Windows 10 Home is a free version of Windows 10. Edition preinstalled, is the device we’ll be looking at in this post. It also comes with a keyboard and mouse, and if you order via Amazon, you can add a monitor for a full set.
The savvy buyer should be aware that the M32AD is available in many distinct versions, each with slightly different hardware. This review is for the M32AD-US001T model, however if you’re looking for a step up in performance, the M32AD also has an i5-processor option with a graphics card. If this describes you, look into the M32AD-US007T model.
Pros
- Windows 10 Home is preinstalled on this ready-to-use machine.
- 1TB storage
- A 6-in-1 card reader, 5 USB ports, HDMI, and VGA are among the many peripherals available.
- Wireless card built-in
- Warranty period of one year
Cons
- The warranty is no longer valid. You’ll invalidate any manufacturer warranties if you open the casing to alter or extend your system.
- There is no specialized graphics card available.
- If you wish to add dedicated graphics, you’ll need to update your PSU.
- The processor isn’t based on the most recent Skylake architecture.
Performance
As is customary, the first item we look at is the computer’s performance. Though the hardware isn’t the most up-to-date, this computer offers good value for money – you’d spend roughly the same or more to purchase the individual components and build it yourself.
This PC uses an Intel Core i3-4170 CPU from the 5th generation. This is a 3.7GHz dual-core CPU that was launched in the first quarter of 2015. It provides adequate performance, although it is not the most recent (the most recent 6th generation Skylake architecture CPUs were introduced later in 2015).
This prebuilt PC, like many others, lacks a dedicated graphics card and instead relies on the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400, which is adequate for general-purpose tasks like watching videos, webcam chatting, and playing low-end computer games, though you’ll likely have to keep gameplay settings low to get decent frame rates.
The M32AD comes with a single 8GB DDR3 RAM stick, but it has twin DIMM ports, so you can add additional RAM if you want to in the future. The maximum memory supported is 16GB, which may be easily increased by inserting a second 8GB memory stick into the spare slot.
One of the M32AD’s strongest selling points is that it comes with a respectable 1TB hard drive. This PC comes with a reasonable amount of storage with a 1TB SATA 3 hard drive, and with three extra internal SATA ports, you could add additional storage in the future if required.
The M32AD computer case has a single 5.25′′ bay and two 3.5′′ bays for storage or optical drives on the inside. The integrated RW-DVD drive is installed in the 5.25′′ bay, and the 1TB hard drive is installed in one of the 3.5′′ bays, leaving one 3.5′′ space available for future drives.
Usage
The M32AD is a general-purpose computer designed for users who do not have highly specialized computing requirements. The i3 processor and integrated graphics are both 2015 Intel releases, so you’ll have plenty of computing power to handle tasks like browsing the internet, running office applications, viewing/accessing multimedia like videos and photos, webcam chat, general multitasking, and even low-end computer gaming.
It is a solid out-of-the-box option for business or personal usage, and it will perform well unless you are using extremely demanding computer applications or multitasking heavily. The chassis has a clean appearance, and many of ASUS’ prebuilt desktop options utilize the same case, so make sure you check the specs and model number of the computer you want to be sure you’re buying the correct one (as the internal hardware varies between models).
Keep in mind that if you want to do any serious video editing, high-end computer gaming, or using applications like Adobe Photoshop or AutoCAD, you’ll probably need a computer with a little more graphical capability than the M32AD.
Gaming Capabilities
With casual computer gaming becoming increasingly popular these days, many people are curious about how well a prebuilt computer like this one would handle games. If you often play games with a high visual graphics load (such as Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, and others), you may find it difficult to play on high settings and maintain smooth gameplay without a dedicated graphics card.
Here’s an example of the i3-4170 CPU running GTA V with integrated HD 4400 graphics:
However, the M32AD’s inbuilt HD graphics are still enough, and it will most likely run less demanding games (e.g. World of Warcraft, Overwatch, CS:Go) at low to medium settings and still be playable, so if you’re simply a casual gamer, it may still be sufficient.
Here’s how the integrated HD 4400 graphics perform in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive:
If you find yourself in need of a little extra graphics processing power, the M32AD features a full-size PCIe expansion slot that will enable you to add a dedicated graphics card later on if you decide to update the system. The M32AD is available from ASUS in a variety of configurations, some of which feature dedicated graphics cards. According to the ASUS website, it will undoubtedly support the following cards (because they are available as official variants!):
- 1GB/2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT620
- 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT625
- 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT630
- 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GT640
- 1GB AMD Radeon HD8350
- 2GB AMD Radeon HD8570
- 1GB AMD Radeon R5 220
- 2GB AMD Radeon R7 240
It should be noted, however, that the cards listed above are older – some were published in 2012, for example. You may also update to a newer graphics card, which will provide greater performance, but bear in mind that you may need to replace the M32AD’s power supply if you want to use the more power-hungry graphics cards.
Screens/Video
The M32AD has two display outputs on the back of the case: one VGA connector and one HDMI port. Although the OEM motherboard used by ASUS for this product does not include a DVI connector, you should be able to operate two screens using just VGA and HDMI if you have the appropriate connections (or plug adaptors to fit VGA/HDMI).
If your monitor only has a DVI cable, you’ll need a DVI female to HDMI male adapter, such as this one.
The M32AD is being upgraded.
The M32 series of desktop PCs from ASUS are excellent entry-level options, making them a popular choice for future upgrades. If you plan on updating this PC in the future, keep in mind that it comes with a warranty seal on the case, which means that if you open it and break the seal, you will lose the manufacturer’s one-year guarantee. It’s a good idea to postpone any updates until the computer’s warranty term has expired.
For anyone wanting to modify or upgrade in the future, we’ve provided a list of the complete specs at the conclusion of this post.
Memory (add another DDR3 stick), a dedicated graphics card, and/or a bigger power supply are all components that you should consider upgrading on this PC (only required if you are putting in a larger graphics card).
Note that we believe the M32CD version is a better option if you want to buy the M32AD with the aim of updating it later. What is the cause behind this? The M32CD is somewhat more future-proof than the M32AD since it features a more current and higher-performing CPU.
For the M32AD Desktop Computer, Graphics Cards
If you wish to install a dedicated graphics card in the M32AD, the standard 350W peak supply is one of the most frequent limiting issues. Unfortunately, prebuilt PCs usually appear to have little information on the specific power supply type utilized, and this one is no exception. We’re presuming it has the same 350W peak power supply as the M32CD desktop, which is really rated at 286W nominally. This means you may not have a lot of free space to play with, so depending on the graphics card you’re considering, you could also need to update your power supply.
Given the similarities between the M32AD and the M32CD, please see our article on upgrading the M32CD for some recommended graphics cards (they’ll be the same), as well as some videos to help you install a new graphics card (the process should be similar despite the different PC model numbers).
The M32AD Desktop Computer’s Power Supplies
Due to the similarities between the M32AD and the M32CD, we’ve put together some information on suggested power supply improvements for the M32CD. If you have the M32AD and wish to upgrade the power supply, these instructions will work for you.

Summary
The ASUS M32AD desktop computer is an excellent value for money computer that is very flexible and will fit most computer users. However, for a comparable price range, we would strongly suggest ASUS’ M32CD option. The M32CD is basically the same computer as the M32, except it comes with a more current and powerful CPU (we think this makes the M32CD more worthwhile for future upgrading as well).
